Canada: A Fascinating CountryIntroduction: Many people love to travel around the world and explore different cultures. First, one needs to know more about the place that they are interested in before they travel there. Learning more about the place ensures that one can have a great experience and make memories that will last for a lifetime. A great place to travel would be Canada. Canada has alluring landforms, mouthwatering foods and unique celebrations. Canada has alluring landforms, mouthwatering foods and unique celebrations. Canada is an amazing place to travel! A great place to travel in Canada is its capital, Ottawa. Other cities that people like to travel to are Toronto, Ontario, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Victoria, British Columbia, and Edmonton, Alberta. Toronto, Ontario, is a cultural, entertainment, business and financial hub and is the largest city in Canada. Fredericton, New Brunswick, is the center for research in the agriculture, forestry and engineering industries. Victoria, British Columbia, has many sea and air links that make it a business hub. Edmonton, Alberta, is northernmost of Canada’s large cities and referred to as the Gateway to the North because of its road and air transportation links. As one can see, all these cities play an important role and are great places to explore.Canada’s coordinates are 60°N and 95°W. (“The World Factbook”). It borders the North Atlantic Ocean on the east. The North Pacific Ocean in on west. The Arctic Ocean is on the north of this country. Canada is located in northern North America. The capital and the cities of Canada aren’t the only things that make the country fascinating. The astounding landforms and weather make Canada beautiful! The Appalachians are in the southeast and the Cordillera are in the west. There are a lot of mountain belts in the Cordillera region, some of them five hundred miles wide along Canada’s Pacific coast. There are also the Coast Mountains including Mount Logan which is Canada’s highest peak and is 19,551 feet tall (“Encyclopedia Britannica”). Canada has lots of islands. The Arctic Archipelago is made up of thousands of islands north of the Canadian mainland. Other landforms consists of interior plains like the Saskatchewan plain and the Canadian Shield which occupies about half of Canada. It has some of the world’s oldest rocks. Most of the shield lies at elevations below 2,000 feet (“Encyclopedia Britannica”). Canada has a linked geography with the United States. A body of water in Canada would include The Great Lakes-St Lawrence region.The seasons of Canada are typical. Snow is light in the areas of the east and west coasts because the ocean makes the air warm. The parts of Canada farthest from open water during the winter are the coldest. They are the warmest during summer. Two thirds of northern Canada has a climate similar to that of northern Scandinavia (“Encyclopedia Britannica”) . It has very cold winters and short and cool summers. During fall, cooler temperatures in central and eastern Canada provide relief from the heat of the summer. Canada’s west coast experiences spring early. During February there are tulips and the temperature is usually higher than 32°F (“TripSavvy”). As one can see, the seasons in Canada are beautiful. Winters are short but harsh, summers are hot and humid, fall brings relief from summer’s heat, and spring brings wonderful flowers that people can enjoy. Going on with why Canada is such a fascinating place, there is another aspect that makes Canada truly unique. Canadians are very festive people. They have lots of great celebrations like New Year’s Levee, Calgary Stampede, and New Shoes on Budget Day. New Year’s Levee is an old European tradition, but Canada is the only country that celebrates it now. This tradition began in the 1600s and is today held by each province’s lieutenant governor and the governor general. It marks the start of a new year and allows Canadians to pay their respects. “It’s also a tradition in the units and headquarters of Canadian Forces, where officials receive and greet guests to welcome in the new year” (Simpson). Another traditional festival that attracts a lots of visitors and citizens is the Calgary Stampede. The Calgary Stampede is an annual extravaganza that takes place every July in Calgary, Alberta. The reason people celebrate this day is preserve western heritage. Over one million ( Simpson) people around the world visit it every year, making it one of Canada’s biggest traditions. It is a great place to visit!Last, but definitely not least, is the New Shoes on Budget Day. This tradition is remarkable! New Shoes on Budget Day involves the Minister of Finance and provincial finance ministers wearing new shoes to deliver the new budget. It can be traced back to 1960. All of Canada’s celebrations are cheerful and fun. While everyone loves festivals and holidays, they wouldn’t be the same without Canada’s delicious food! For breakfast, Canadians usually eat either bacon, ham or sausage along with eggs. Hot cereal is a tradition for the Canadians. A typical lunch for Canadians would usually be sandwiches, soup, bagels and fruit. A three-course meal for dinner time would consist of baby kale and spinach bites, barbecued chicken drumsticks, or grilled pita wedges for appetizers, one pot shrimp and couscous or naan meatball pizzas for the main course, and butter tart cupcakes, chocolate covered pretzels, or Canada leaf cookies as dessert. There aren’t any typical ingredients used in Canada but lots of foods include bacon, poutine and maple syrup. People from all over the world come to Canada and visit some of its breathtaking and amazing destinations. Two of them are Victoria’s Inner Harbour and the Bay of Fundy. Victoria’s Inner Harbour is a beautiful harbour with water on one side and government buildings on the other. There is a classic boat festival on Labour Day at this destination. The Bay of Fundy is located on the Atlantic coast in eastern Canada. It is beautiful and known for its high tidal range. You can have a great view of the tides from the Hopewell Rocks, which are a bunch of sandstone towers.It is very evident that Canada is a wonderful country. It has many cities that are worth visiting, beautiful landforms, great weather, unique celebrations, delicious food. It also has great travel destinations.
